Meet Asad, a talented Ruby on Rails developer hailing from Lahore, Pakistan. With a career marked by impressive achievements and a passion for technology, Asad has become a valuable member of the Mission Community and has been working with the Mission platform team since 2020. We spoke with him this month to learn more about his career journey, interests, and contributions.
From a Happy Accident to a Fulfilling Career
Asad’s journey into software engineering was not a planned one. Initially set on a different path, he found his way into a degree in Information Technology almost by chance. However, this “happy accident” became a turning point, leading him to pursue a degree in IT at Lahore University. He graduated in 2020, right in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, a time when many were grappling with uncertainty.
During his studies, Asad’s interest in software development blossomed, thanks in large part to a mentor he met during his internships. This mentor introduced him to the Ruby on Rails (RoR) framework, a skill that would become a cornerstone of his career and under his mentor’s guidance, Asad experienced significant growth and learning. His internships from 2018 to 2019 were crucial, not only in honing his technical skills but also in building a network of support and guidance.
After completing his degree, Asad transitioned from intern to a full-time role at Southville Solutions, where he continued to refine his expertise in RoR and full-stack development. His dedication and skill led to a significant milestone in 2023: being promoted to a tech lead position at Mission Software. This role has allowed him to take on more responsibilities, including integrating code channel notifications into Slack and overseeing new sign-ups in the network.
Passion Projects and Personal Life
Outside of work, Asad is a passionate gamer. He and his wife enjoy playing co-op games, with their current favorite being “It Takes Two.” This shared hobby has become a cherished part of their daily routine, providing a fun way to unwind after a busy day.
Asad’s interests extend beyond the digital realm. He used to be an avid cricket player, participating in district club matches before his work commitments took precedence. Despite stepping back from active sports, his love for travel remains strong. Recently, Asad and his wife explored the breathtaking landscapes of Skardu, Pakistan, where they enjoyed hiking and taking in the natural beauty. Their next travel destination is the scenic Hunza Valley, known for its stunning vistas.
As Asad reflects on his career so far, he speaks passionately about new technologies and the importance of mentorship along the way.
